Vulcan Bomber XH558 makes desperate appeal for funds (23/8/06)

Today's TV reports that the Avro Vulcan Bomber XH558 currently being restored at Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire, England needs to raise a further £1.2M in order to retain the restoration project's team of skilled Engineers.

The official website - Vulcan To The Sky(www.vulcantothesky.com) - is asking for donations to help this important cause. Another website Save The Vulcan (www.savethevulcan.co.uk) is offering to sell personalised wine to help keep the project, so donors actually get something tangible in return for helping their cause.

Visit the official website here and the wine website here.

The Avro Vulcan XH558 is the best hope of restoring one of the original Vulcan Bombers to flight. The last time the Vulcan saw active service in a war arena was during The Falklands War in 1982, when it carried out bombing raids. Designed as a high-altitude bomber during the early cold war years of the 1950s, it was said by pilots lucky enough to fly her to be extremely manoeverable.

During the 1970s a Vulcan was used to test the Olympus 593 engines destined for Concorde, and was a common sight in the air above Bristol, as well as its Lincolnshire base.

Please help this worthy cause in any way you can.
